Sunsets or Sex

Hunger for food is surely satisfied
And thirst for drink is readily remedied
But the deep longings of my heart cannot be fulfilled by
steak or water,
experiences or promotions,
dollars or a wife,
poems or education,
kisses or kids,
music or profit,
recognition or responses,
family or friends,
talents or technology,
writing or reading,
sleeping or sports,
sunsets or sex.

In this moment of my Quiet Heart, I realize that I am nothing without You. Sometimes I try to find myself in those things, but they don't fill the same places that You fill, even though I put much more of them in my life than I allow of You.

I would rather have a day in Your Presence, in this quiet place, than my lifetime filled with those things to the brim.

Help me to remember that all I have is Yours, all my dreams are second to Yours, and all I am is a servant prince in the kingdom where grace can't be purchased, acceptance can't be earned, and salvation is only one breath away.

This moment, I choose to rest in Your Presence, and I've never been anywhere better.
